Our DNA History by Carl Mahon

In 2005 I participated in the National Geographic, Genographic project. The goal of this project was to track ancient ancestry and migration of groups of people who share the same DNA.

In a nutshell this tracks a specific region that our ancesters migrated to several thousand years ago. For complete information goto https://www3.nationalgeographic.com/genographic/index.html

While the primary reason I participated was curiosity about our ancient ancestors I also discovered that there are several studies also in progress to link DNA to more recent ancestors from the 1500's through the 1700's. This included John Mahon (1744) of Virgina. (For more information see the last section.)

The results are in and here are some (but not all) of the answers. Please keep in mind genetic scientists say that we all descended from one person in Africa several million years ago. From these groups people migrated (over thousands of years) and settled various regions of the world.

I am not advocating anything that is non-creationist. I am simply providing information that does show that we share DNA from a group of people the lived several thousand years ago in the north of modern day Spain. Along the route they traveled, certain groups migrated into England and Ireland (see M343 marker on map).

The John Mahon DNA Connection

As I mentioned there is also a study to link current living individuals to John Mahon of Virginia. I have submitted my DNA information and joined this group as of late June 2006. My DNA was assigned as #N31060.

AS of July 2006 there are about six other members in this study and I am happy to report that so far there is evidence of a DNA link to John Mahon of Virgina as well as others in Ireland. I must admit that I do not fully understand how all of the DNA data is related and how conclusive the data is. But I am learning and will certianly be posting updates about this as time goes on.
